Introducing The Jeanne Paquin Jacket Project

Introducing The Jeanne Paquin Jacket Project

The Jeanne Paquin Jacket, Vogue Paris Original pattern published in 1953

What started as a simple project to reproduce a 1953 Jeanne Paquin designed jacket is morphing into what will be an exquisite vintage couture piece, with some hand stitched surface embellishments.

The Vintage Couture Pattern

The design is this Vogue Pattern designed by Paquin and published by Condé Nast Publications in 1953.

The Vogue Pattern Description

The description of the design on the back of the pattern reads...

"Slim skirt without seam at sides, has soft fullness on hops. Skirt joins the sleeveless bodice at waist-line. Low front shaped neck-line. Centre-back closing for slide fastener. Fitted jacket buttons below collarless neck-line. Optional machine pleased scarf is joined to neck-line and pulled through opening in dart. Long one piece sleeves may be worn pushed up".

Suitable fabrics for this ensemble include:

  • Crepe
  • Taffets
  • Faille
  • Faille crepe
  • Shantung
  • Wool crepe
  • Lightweight woollen
  • Line.

The Haute Couture Embroidery

We are making the jacket in a deep blue cotton velvet and embroidering the neckline with feather motifs in metallic gold and silver threads and a hand drawn J Paquin signature.

Embroidering Feather Motifs

Here's a peak at the chain stitch embroidery technique using the crochet de Luneville hook. It's not as easy as you think! This is why they call it haute couture embroidery!
