Crochet de Luneville Embroidered Gold and Silver Feather Motifs

Crochet de Luneville Feather Motifs in Gold and Silver Metallic Thread

If you’re familiar with crochet de Luneville, the art of haute couture embroidery also known as tambour embroidery, you’ll know that chain stitch embroidery is not an easy technique to master. This is exceptionally so when it comes to using metallic threads.

Metallic threads can be very unforgiving when it comes to using a tambour embroidery hook, but once the technique is mastered and the correct size hook is used, the effect can be absolutely brilliant!

Having finished embellishing the neckline and opening edge of the right front panel of the vintage Jeanne Paquin couture jacket, it seems appropriate that this beautiful crochet de Luneville embroidery be repeated on the left side of the neckline as well.

The feather motifs are designed in an abstract form of curves undulating in multiple directions to express movement. Short strands of the metallic thread are cast onto the fabric that allows the work to be done in a stop start fashion. More feathers will be added as well as bead work resembling the embroidery completed on the right front panel of the jacket.

THE RIGHT FRONT JACKET

The embroidery on the right front panel features the same motifs of feathers stitched in gold and silver metallic threads yet set amongst Swarovski crystals and three dimensional beaded flowers.
